Barossa is one of the world's great wine-making regions, a hour's drive north of Adelaide. A little further north is the Clare Valley,with its historic mining town of Burra. The 2000km of the Eyre Peninsula north-west of Adelaide has the Southern Ocean to the south, with regular sightings of Southern Right Whales, and the vast emptiness of the Nullabor Plain to the north.Kangaroo Island is a wilderness delight with colonies of sea lions, echidnas, fairy penguins, playtpuses, koalas, and the island's own species of kangaroo. The Limestone Coast south-east of Adelaide has brilliant white beaches, and the World Heritage Site of Naracoorte Caves with its ancient fossils.The Murraylands has the open-range Monarto Zoological Park.Of course, real estate is very diverse, but freestanding houses are the most common dwelling.
