Wollongong is the second largest city in NSW, and is located just to the south of Sydney. The city has excellent unspoilt surf beaches, as does much of the Illawarra and the South Coast. The Illawarra Escarpment to the west is a stunning bushland environment with great bushwalking trails. The University of Wollongong is an excellent education provider, and a major employer. Port Kembla also generates a lot of employment with the largest steelworks in Australia, and is the closest port to Sydney, mainly transporting iron ore, coal and grain, It is a major road and rail freight hub. Administration, retail and hospitality also provide plenty of jobs. Wollongong Harbour is the centre of a large fishing industry with a major commercial fishing fleet. Kiama is located to the south of Wollongong Harbour, is a dairy farming and quarrying town, and is known for the major tourist attraction, the Kiama Blowhole. Real estate in Wollongong and the South Coast is much cheaper than in Sydney, with many units and houses available. Real estates can tell you more.
