Launceston is Tasmania's second largest city. Situated on the Tamar River, its main industries are community services, wholesale and retail, and maunfacturing. George Town, at the mouth of the Tamar River ,offers great natural beauty, with excellent surf beaches, and unique wildlife. There is the Low Head Pilot Station (the oldest in Australia) and Maritime Museum. George Town is on the Tamar Wine Route which has wine-tasting, tours and cellar-door sales and you can enjoy fresh strawberries and cream at Hillwood Strawberry Farm. Public transport is poor, so you will need a car. Housing is inexpensive, with an average three-bedroom house costing around $195,000.
